Batman Begins

What's it about? Bruce Wayne looses his parents to a senseless crime and years later become the Batman that must save crime-ridden Gotham City.

Starring? Christian Bale , Michael Cane , Liam Neeson , Katie Holmes , Gary Oldman , Cillian Murphy

After watching The Dark Knight rises I guiltily realized I had never properly watched Batman Begins, so I did.  Admittedly I did not rate it as highly as the other two of Nolan's Batman films , but nevertheless it was still a quality and highly entertaining film. Firstly I commend Nolan for living up the films title as following the very beginning of Batman and not just jumping from an impulsive idea to become a superhero straight into some highly explosive action through the streets of Gotham. Nolan has almost created a new genre , the superhero blockbuster with brains. He doesn't fixate on violence , stereotypes or special effects instead he explores the man behind the mask ; making a much more interesting and entertaining film. Perhaps the villain does not match the standards of Heath Ledgers Joker or Tom Hardy's Bane , but the acting once more is almost faultless - minus Katie Holmes. To me she seemed an odd fit for the part , and did not quite pull of the strong female character ; but then again I could just be relating to much with the tabloid painted picture of her I have in my head. Watching this so soon after The Dark Knight Rises enabled me to pick up all of Nolan's hints towards Batman's future , the Nolan brothers create such an intricate plot and script - it really is genius.

Verdict? 4 stars An intelligent and sturdy base for the following of the Batman Trilogy. I thinks it time for a Batman marathon.
